In the land of the rising sun: take two

October 31, 2009

After studying abroad in Tokyo for a semester, and graduating from college into a dying economy (thank you very much, responsible parties: you know who you are), I joined the rush of college grads to teach English in Japan.  This time I’m in Sakai, Osaka, which is in the Kansai area in the south.

To get to Osaka, I landed in Kansai Airport, which is a really big, artificial island.  It sinks a couple of inches each year.

I hope that this blog will be a memoir-style collection of my experiences.  I’m teaching in a junior high school, and while I have had some time to adjust to the culture in my school, there are still some things that throw me off.  While I’m writing this to give my friends a first-hand impression of what it’s like to work with kids in Japan, maybe this blog will help future teachers to prepare themselves before coming over :) .
